Vitality frequently asked questions

General questions

What is the Vitality programme with Lite Rewards?

When you take out a PruProtect policy, you instantly become a member of our unique Vitality programme with Lite Rewards. It rewards you for leading a healthier lifestyle.

When you do certain Vitality activities that help you lead a healthier lifestyle, we’ll give you Vitality points which increase your Vitality status. Everyone starts on Bronze status. The more points you get, the higher your Vitality status becomes and the greater your rewards.

We want to ensure that Vitality rewards and discounts continue to be relevant for our members; therefore individual Vitality partners and rewards may change from time to time.

How you know if you're a member of the Vitality programme with Lite Rewards?

  • If your Plan started from 16 November 2008 you will have access to Vitality with Lite Rewards  and protection premiums that stay level or decrease, depending on how much you engage in our Vitality programme.*
  • If your Plan started before 16 November 2008 you will have access to a Vitality programme with higher partner discounts (known as full Vitality) but your protection premium could increase if you choose not to engage in our Vitality programme (refer to your Plan Provisions).
  • If you have a PruHealth and PruProtect policy you will receive Vitality partner discounts based on the PruHealth Vitality offers.
*If you have the Essentials Plan you will not receive discounts on your premium at your anniversary.

If I have the Vitality programme without Lite Rewards can I switch to the Vitality programme with Lite Rewards?

If you would like reassurance that your protection premium would not increase at your anniversary due to your Vitality status, you can switch to Lite Rewards today. Simply contact your Financial Adviser or call us on 0845 601 0072.

How will the Vitality programme impact my premiums?*

By engaging in our Vitality programme with Lite Rewards you could reduce the cost of your future premiums. If you choose not to take part in our Vitality programme and you remain on Bronze status, then your premium will remain the same. If you choose to engage in Vitality and improve your status, your premium could be reduced.

The Lite Rewards premium discount structure does not apply to PruProtect policies that started before 16 November 2008 or members who have both a PruProtect and PruHealth policy. Find out more about what benefits you are eligible for in the Member Zone.

*If you have the Essentials Plan you will not receive discounts on your premium at your anniversary.

Other than gyms, what other ways are there to earn Vitality points?

There are many other ways you can earn Vitality points, for example:

  • If you prefer to keep active outside the gym, you can use a Fitbug, an interactive pedometer, to track your steps and submit this information online.
  • You could earn Vitality points by running, riding your bike, walking your dog, climbing a mountain or going for a hike with a Polar Heart Rate Monitor.
  • You could undergo fitness assessments at our participating gyms (even if you aren’t a member of the gym) to track your fitness.
  • You can have a health screen with one of our health screening partners.
  • You can create healthy meal plans online at the Member Zone.

Take a look at the full list of activities and points you could earn.

We want to ensure that Vitality rewards and discounts continue to be relevant for our members, therefore individual Vitality partners may change from time to time.

Is the product only for the young and healthy?

Definitely not. All members will receive an innovative, top quality product with comprehensive cover, regardless of whether they participate in Vitality. There is no obligation for members to participate in Vitality.

As people get older, they may be more concerned about keeping healthy. This means that messages around preventative care and being healthy are even more relevant than with younger people. Since we cover a wide range of health-related activities, from education and quitting smoking to health screens and regular exercise, we are not recommending any one way of becoming and remaining healthy.

What is the Vitality Review?

The Vitality Review is an annual review that will give members some useful guidance on what steps they could take to look after themselves. The review is split into six sections: health status, physical activity, nutrition, smoking, alcohol and stress. You will be encouraged to take the Vitality Review when you first register on to the Member Zone and will also earn 100 Vitality points.

How will PruProtect prevent Vitality fraud from members?

We have a range of checks and balances to monitor usage of our Vitality benefits. Online Vitality activities are monitored through our website. For other activities members will have to make a declaration either in writing or on a recorded call. Details of any activities will be requested and we will perform regular and random checks to verify these. We will also be monitoring patterns of usage by members and following these up with relevant checks.

Simply click through to your Vitality points statement for a breakdown of your gym visits and how many points you have earned. Please note, you must be a member of the gym through PruProtect in order to earn Vitality points.

However, please note that children will be billed at the standard gym retail rate and that Vitality points will not be awarded for their attendance. The standard gym retail rate for children may be cheaper than Vitality rates.

How do I cancel my membership?

We hope you don’t need to do this but if you want to cancel your gym membership please contact us.

I am already a gym member. How do I switch my membership?

If you're already an LA Fitness member and are outside your initial contract term, you can switch to our Vitality programme with Lite Rewards subsidised rates online at www.lafitness.co.uk/pruvitality. If you are within your initial contract term we will be able to award you Vitality points for exercising at the gym by registering online at www.lafitness.co.uk/pruvitality.

Visit your Virgin Active club and request to transfer over to our rates. You will need your PruProtect membership card with you to sign up to the Vitality programme Lite Rewards subsidised rates. Please note that should you be in your initial 12-month contract period you will need to see that out before cancelling.

Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing*

eBay

What does 'eligible sporting goods' mean?

Because our Vitality programme with Lite Rewards is designed to help you improve and maintain your health, Vitality points will only be awarded for the purchase of eligible items. These are items listed in the ‘Sporting Goods’ category of eBay which we could consider beneficial for your physical health, fitness or wellbeing. We may not award or may cancel Vitality points if we believe that the items purchased have been misclassified as sporting goods, or are experimental, unproven or unregistered treatments or practices. We do not endorse any of the items on auction on eBay.

Can my family buy from eBay and earn Vitality points?

All adults on your cover who are registered on the Member Zone and have registered their unique eBay User ID with us could earn points from making eligible purchases on eBay.

How do I know what I have bought is eligible?

To see examples of items we consider ineligible, please log into the Member Zone and explore the Earning points with eBay section.

How do I track my sporting goods purchases?

To track your purchases, a personal eBay Vitality statement will be created for you. You can access this from the Vitality points statement in the Member Zone.

Fitbug

Can my family get a Fitbug?

All members of 18 or over on your policy are eligible for a Fitbug at the subsidised rate of £30. Why not get Fitbugs for all the family and clock up those steps by going on family walks?

What happens if my Fitbug breaks?

For further details on Fitbug maintenance or any other problems, please visit www.fitbug.com/pruvitality.

Health Screening

Can my family have a screen?

All adult dependants on your cover are able to have a screen at the Vitality programme Lite Rewards subsidised prices and could earn Vitality points for this. Most of the screens aren’t suitable for those under 18, but please contact the relevant screening partner for further information.

How often should I have a screen?

Having more than one full screen per year is not proven to be clinically beneficial and unnecessary screenings has been criticised by some eminent medical sources.  Therefore to avoid members undergoing unnecessary screenings simply to earn points, PruProtect will subsidise a maximum of either two health screens, two fitness assessments or one of each.
